Police official Sanjay Laxman Gaikwad told the reporters on Wednesday that cops from social service branch and Nagpada police station conducted a combined raid after they came across an advertisement in a newspaper.
“We saw an advertisement in a newspaper on October 31 on page number 20, where a mobile number was given. The advertisement read 'A to Z beautiful girls supplied'. The squads of social service branch and Nagpada police station conducted a joint raid after planning,” said Gaikwad.
The Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA) act is meant to combat trafficking of females as well as prostitution in the city.
According to media reports, more than a hundred girls have been rescued in the past few months from bars, saloons and massage centres, which were functioning as prostitution dens.
Gaikwad also said that they have also arrested a middleman and a woman Farida Sheikh and recovered cash worth Rs 23,500.
