Boss rebukes this statement by accused ASI; says he should've behaved himself

A day after beating a schoolboy in a BEST bus, Assistant Sub-Inspector Chandrakant Pawar from the Tardeo police station has denied the allegations. "I am innocent and have clarified my stance to my superiors," said Pawar. He added, "I have been in the force for 32 years. I have an impeccable record and I am a teetotaler."

Pawar is accused of brutally assaulting Abdul Sattar Supariwala (17), a Std X student of St Xavier's High School, Fort, because he failed to make way for him in BEST bus route no 67 on Tuesday.

Pawar's version

According to Raja Tambat, assistant commissioner of police, Tardeo division, Pawar said he boarded the crowded bus at 8.25 pm that day. A group of young boys and girls were trying to block the passage and he could overhear Abdul having an altercation with the conductor. When Pawar, in civil clothes, tried to intervene, the bus halted abruptly and a commuter's hand accidentally hit Abdul's spectacles. He started bleeding and accused Pawar of assault.

Witnesses

However, on the basis of statements given by the victim and commuters in the bus, Pawar did have an argument with Abdul and slapped him in a fit of rage.

"Pawar should have behaved himself in public and not created a nuisance," said Tambat.

Inquiry

Tambat said he had completed his investigation and submitted the report to Commissioner of Police Hasan Gafoor and Additional Commissioner of Police (Central region) Sadana-nd Date. He added that the alcohol test conducted on Pawar at J J Hospital is negative.
