They were produced in court and remanded to police custody. The incident took place when residents from a society in Suncity Complex near Powai complained to the police that some others in the building were locking up a room meant to store garbage. Around 11 am on Sunday, a team from Parksite police station, under whose jurisdiction the building falls, went to investigate the matter. The cops wanted to take the four in charge of the dumping room to the police station for further investigations.
The police asked the four accused to accompany them in the police car, but they refused. After this, Constable Manohar Warde (35) accompanied them in a privately-owned vehicle. The team of cops reached the police station, but the four accused did not arrive with Warde. The cops immediately sent out a wireless message and cordoned off several areas. Meanwhile, the four accused allegedly assaulted Warde in the car.
An hour later, the car carrying Warde and the accused was intercepted on the Eastern Express Highway and the constable was rescued. He was administered first aid. A police officer from Parksite police station said, “All the accused have been charged with kidnapping, and assault on a public servant. They were produced in the court and remanded to police custody. We are investigating the angle of their dispute with the residents of the building.”
