On a Thursday night, a day of the week marked by slow business, Colaba's exclusive-to-members club, Prive saw 50-odd 17 to 21 year-olds living it up.

Managed by private event management companies on weekdays, here, the 'Lotus' tables and pods can be yours for Rs 22,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. On weekends the rates shoot up to Rs 40,000.

And, that's exactly what FYJC student from Jai Hind College, Salman Shaikh, did to bring in his 17th birthday on Thursday night.
Salman had reserved the Lotus table and another pod to bring in his 17th birthday. His posse of close to 15 boys, all clad in extra low-waist jeans, giving you a peek of bright-hued boxers, usually hangout at Kala Ghoda club Red Light on Wednesdays, Prive on Thursdays, Lower Parel's Play on Fridays, and China House at Grand Hyatt, Santacruz on Saturdays. Salman's clubbing is financed by his entrepreneur brother.
"I get Rs 50,000 as pocket money," he shrugged. He and his friends, most of them residents of Cuffe Parade, admitted that they usually party VIP-style.
This means they reserve sections of the club, based on a minimum billing amount or with pre-bought bottles of alcohol.
On his birthday, Salman bought a bottle of Jack Daniels whisky for Rs 16,300 and a bottle of Belvedere vodka for Rs 10,000 to reserve those tables for the night.
"My friends ordered for extra mixers, some beers and a few shots. I have spent close to Rs 40,000 tonight," he said.
Other premium clubs
Most premium clubs in Mumbai that offer a private dining area for a group of 20 to 50 people, insist you make weekend reservations as early as Monday.
"By Thursday, we are usually booked," is what we heard from Indigo Lounge at Colaba and China House at Grand Hyatt.
At China House, three private dining rooms located near the DJ area cost Rs 50,000, while a booth facing the bar is yours for Rs 25,000.
These figures denote the minimum billing amount for the night.
At Bling near Sahar airport, there's a fixed reservation fee for the French Room that remains private between 10 pm and 1 am. After that, the space is opened to other patrons.
They allow you to reserve the section only if you are a group of close to 50 people.
The charges range from between Rs 2,200 and Rs 4,000 per person depending on what you want to include in the package starters, main course, domestic or premium alcohol.
Indigo's Black Lounge is available for a night if you have Rs 1 lakh to spare.
This enclosed rooftop space at Indigo Lounge provides access to an open bar, six starters, four salads, four main course dishes and three desserts, for a group of 30 people.
"It's best if you book as early in the week as you can. The Black Lounge is reserved as often as 8 times a month," said an assistant when we inquired on phone.
