After a tug-of-war between the Shiv Sena and the BJP delayed the inauguration of a flyover at Jogeshwari, a group of citizens self-inaugurated it on Saturday. The controversy arose over whether Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray or CM Devendra Fadnavis would cut the ribbon.

“Sometimes, you have to take charge and be the change. After hearing about the new Jogeshwari flyover. I decided to ride it but was disappointed that it hadn’t been inaugurated yet. I removed the barriers and drove to the other side where a few boys helped me push aside another barrier. We self-inaugurated it. We don’t need ministers. Happy Independence Day,” said a Facebook post by Sampath K Iyengar, a resident of Jogeshwari.
Chief engineer, Bridges department, BMC, SO Kori, said, “The flyover hasn’t been officially inaugurated. We have asked for additional security now.” The 2.25-km flyover connecting Jogeshwari East and West will connect SV Road to Western Express Highway.
