In his maiden rally in Thane city yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised on the importance of cities like Thane and Mumbai in sustaining the growth of the country. Urging people to vote for Sanjay Kelkar, the BJP candidate from Thane city, Modi also lashed out at the Congress-NCP government for their anti-poor policies. With thousands attending the rally at Highland Garden in Balkum and no water bottles being allowed inside, bottles and plastic cups were heaped outside the venue.
Keen to avoid a repeat of Mahalaxmi Racecourse, where Shiv Sena took credit for cleaning the venue, the BJP ensured the area was cleaned later. Traffic on the Jogeswhari-Vikroli Link Road was blocked in the afternoon for Modi’s convoy to pass, leading to traffic snarls. Traffic movement at the Kapurbawdi junction in Thane was also affected for some time. After the Thane rally, Modi went on to address one in Borivli.
