Maharashtra’s disgraced deputy CM, Chhagan Bhujbal is challenging the power to arrest him in the High Court. The division bench of Bombay High Court on Tuesday was hearing the habeas corpus plea on what Bhujbal claims is his ‘illegal’ detention. He had filed the petition in court last Friday. The court is likely to pass its orders in the matters today.
Bhujbal, who was arrested on March 14 this year, filed the petition challenging section 19 (power to arrest) of Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. He also mentioned in the petition that while arresting him, the EDâu00c2u0080u00c2u0088did not follow proper procedure.
Meanwhile, additional solicitor general Anil Singh told the court, “He has been produced in court from time to time. There was no need to file the habeas corpus at this moment because he is not even in our custody.”
