Senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal is likely to get the comforts of a private hospital for longer, as authorities who have to decide on where to send him are busy passing the buck.

Bhujbal was shifted to Bombay hospital from JJ last week for a thallium scan after procuring permission from the court. The test was completed a week back and the report sent to JJ hospital on Monday.

Report sent...
Due to erratic blood pressure and discovery of heart ailment, Bhujbal was advised to undergo three tests — a thallium scan, an electro-physiology evaluation and the Holter test. While the evaluation and Holter test were conducted at JJ hospital, the former deputy chief minister was sent to Bombay hospital for the scan as JJ lacked the equipment for it.

The scan report was said to have been submitted to dean of JJ hospital Dr TP Lahane, who is responsible of taking the call whether to send Bhujbal back to jail or not.

“We submitted the report to the hospital along with our recommendation on the line of treatment and expert opinion, as asked. Now, it is the dean’s responsibility to decide how long to keep him here,” said Dr BK Goyal, director of the cardiology department at Bombay hospital.

Lahane, however, denied having received the scan report and said it was sent to the jail. “I haven’t received any such report from the hospital. It has been sent to the jail that will take a decision on his stay. If they ask us, we will just recommend on the line of treatment. I have no role in it,” he said.

But the jail authority is equally confused. Officers said that as this is about the health of a patient, it is the responsibility of the hospital to decide when and for how long he will stay in the hospital.

“We haven’t received the report. It is with the hospital authorities, who will submit it in court and decide how long he will stay there,” said a senior jail officer.
