Centre approves terms for land transfer for Ambedkar memorial

The Cabinet at the Centre yesterday gave its clearance to terms and conditions for transfer of 12 acres of Indu-6 mill vested with the National Textile Corporation (NTC) to the state government for construction of Dr B R Ambedkar memorial. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi.

“The Chaityabhoomi of Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar is situated in the vicinity of the land of Indu-6 mill of NTC Mumbai, a place of pilgrimage for millions of Indians,” an official statement said.

The Cabinet had already approved the transfer of land to the state for construction on payment of compensation as required under section 11A of the Sick Textile Undertakings (Nationalisation) Amendment Act, 1995, and ratified a tripartite MoU signed between the central government and Maharashtra and NTC.
