On Saturday around 10.45 pm, a man called Thane police control room, saying he had seen five Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) members, who had escaped from Khandwa jail in Madhya Pradesh on October 1, 2013.

The man claimed that he saw them at Mulund station and they took a Badlapur local and going towards Kalyan. After the call, Thane Railway police went in search of the five men.
They checked Thane, Dombivli and Kalyan stations.
They also checked the Badlapur local in which the men allegedly entered. But the accused were not found.
According to a source, “As they were not seen, it was declared to be a case of mistaken identity. Photos of all the five are displayed at stations saying if they are seen anywhere, police should be informed. The informer’s identity will be kept under wraps. We suspect that after seeing this poster, the man called us.”
Vijay Kamble, Thane police commissioner said, “We get these kind of calls on a daily basis but it is our duty to investigate them. Regarding this case, we have checked the CCTV footage but no such people were seen.”
