Worried about the notion that his pet schemes are moving at a sluggish pace, CM Fadnavis demands report cards from key departments over this week
Riled over this perception of the slow implementation of his pet schemes and announcements, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has now called three key departments (revenue, industries and labour) to present a report card on their performance in implementing his directives.

The move is designed to assess whether the CM’s announcements have percolated down to the last man in the government machinery. Sources in the government said the CM is concerned over the sluggish response to some of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s pet themes: Make in India, ease of doing business and decentralisation of power. The meetings will be held back-to-back over this week.
“The CM is greatly concerned that most of these schemes, especially in the three departments, have not been yet picked up by officials lower down the government machinery. He is aware that if the lower command does not act as early as they should, it could reflect poorly on the government,” said an official on condition of anonymity.
The three departments have been asked to present a report card of directives given to them from December 15 onward, when the CM had announced a slew of reformatory changes in licencing, and factory and labour laws. Some of them being: reducing the days in which licence could be given down to three, licencing conditions down to five from existing 14, granting of new licences and online renewal and for an automatic period of 10 years, and granting permission for building plan in a record 10 days.
But officials said while the government’s intention may be right, making these radical changes to licencing conditions and other existing mechanisms should be done after carrying out some assessment of how it could be done.
Chief secretary Swadheen Kshatriya also directed secretaries to keep pace with the Chief Minister’s decision-making speed.
