The event will include a handloom and handicrafts exhibition, along with a festival of Maharashtrian cuisines
Known as Pongal in Tamil Nadu and Maghi in Punjab, Makar Sankranti is celebrated with much vigour in different parts of the country. This year, CIDCO plans to mark the harvest festival with much fanfare by hosting a 17-day long Makar Sankranti Mela from January 3-19 at Urban Haat in Belapur.

In this elaborate event, artisans from West Bengal, Maharashtra, Assam, Tripura, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar are participating with exclusive handloom and handicraft products.
In the handicrafts section, visitors will behold a range of terracotta, leather, jute and bamboo products and wall hangings, along with artificial jewellery. In addition to this, master craftsmen from various parts of Maharashtra will exhibit paintings, stone art, bangles, carpets and statues.
Apart from handloom and handicrafts, an exclusive food court will be set up for the gastronomes. On the menu will be Konkan delicacies from Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Raigarh and Ratnagiri by women self-help groups.
CIDCO has lined up many such events, like Gandhi Shilp Bazaar, National Handloom Expo, Vasant Mela, Chaitra Mela and Summer Festival at the haat till June 2014.
