The BEST will screen CCTV grabs of train accidents in which people are trespassing on tracks, jumping platforms and performing stunts
As the number of accidents on the suburban railway network continues to rise taking, on an average, an alarming 10 lives every day, authorities at the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST), railways and NGO Radhee Disaster and Education Foundation have decided to join hands and make commuters aware about it.

The authorities have planned to show CCTV grabs of accidents in which people are trying to catch a moving train, cross tracks, perform stunts, on the TV screens of BEST buses. These videos are aimed to show the ills of performing dangerous acts in trains.

Dr Rita Savla, Founder Director at Radhee Disaster and Education Foundation, informed, “In the first phase, we will show videos of train accidents and will gradually add road accidents.” Many recordings that have gone viral are included, like the video of a young lad performing stunts on a fast moving train and then falling on tracks after losing his balance.
In another video, a woman trying to catch a long distance train falls after she loses her balance and is dragged with the train. The pilot will be inaugurated by BEST Chairman Arvind Dudhvadkar on June 16, and the videos will be screened in 25 buses every Monday for the next one year.
Officials said that since it would not be ideal to show gory images to commuters every day, they have decided to confine it to the first working day of the week to ensure it stays fresh in the minds of commuters. Eventually, videos of road accidents that show people jaywalking and motorists breaking traffic rules will also be included.
