According to police officials at Charkop station, the break-ins took place at Cell City Shop and Shiv Mobile Shop, in Charkop market. The shutter had been broken and the accused fled away with mobile phones worth Rs 7.5 lakh, picking only high-end models.
When mid-day visited the chowky, no police officers were present there. The owner of Cell City Shop, Upendra Mehta said, “Housebreakings are increasing in the area by the day.
On Friday, robbers broke the shutters of my shop and took the costliest smartphones, together worth Rs 4 lakh. The cops are as much responsible for this as the accused. We have a chowky within 20 feet of the shops, but I have not seen an officer there in the past so many days.”
The owner of Shiv Mobile Shop said, “Cops should be present at the chowky 24/7. We need security and safety in the area.” A few days back, late at night, a jewellery shop in the same area was also looted, the harried shop owners said. No senior police officer from Charkop station was available for comment.
