Bang! Fire crackers set off in Mumbai college during exams

A fornighT ago, Kandivli-based Thakur College of Science and Commerce had received a warning, which threatened to ‘blast’ the college if examinations were conducted. Assuming it was just a prank, the college authorities turned a deaf ear to the threat and conducted the exams yesterday.

The threat post had received many comments and shares. It soon became the topic of discussion in the college. file pic

Harmless firecrackers, however, did go off while the exams were going on — one in the classroom and the other in toilet. “Panic struck due to the loud noise. When we rushed to spot, we found remains of Sutli bomb. The Samta Nagar police was informed immediately,” a college official said.

The message was posted on the college’s confession page on social networking site, Facebook. “Around 15 days ago, an unknown person posted that if the college authorities conducted the degree exams, he would carry out blasts in the college. The post had many comments and shares, and it soon became the topic of discussion in the college. However no one believed that anything of that sort would ever happen,” the official added.

CCTV footage
The college has handed over the CCTV footage of the cameras in the college premise to the police. Principal
Dr CT Chakraborty said, “We are taking the help of police to crack the case. We have also initiated high-level inquiry in the matter.”

Meanwhile, the cops suspect a student’s involvement. Senior police inspector Pravin More of Samta Nagar police station said, “A mischievous student seems to be involved in the case. We are going through the CCTV footage, and are consulting the cyber crime police. We have not registered any case, but a serious investigation is underway.”
