BMC seeks public's views on 33.2km coastal road

The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday published the Detailed Project Report of the 33.2 km Coastal Road on its website, thus throwing it open to suggestions and objections. Citizens have until July 27 to do the same.

The move came after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis received a copy of the DPR and, in his tweet, ordered Mumbai's civic body to make it public.

According to a statement issued by the BMC, the coastal road will have 8 lanes along with a dedicated lane for buses. It will have 8 bridges and stilts measuring 5.08 km and tunnels measuring 5.87 kms. The elevated portion will be 3 km. The BMC will have to reclaim 168 hectares of land for this project which is supposed to decongest Western Express Highway, S V road and parts of link road. The BMC has claimed that it will cut down on travel time between the Western suburbs and the city by about an hour.

A sea wall will be constructed next to the road in order to protect it from a rise in sea level and severe storm surges due to climate change, if any, in the future.

The DPR is available on mcgm.gov.in.

Citizens can submit their written suggestions at: Chief Engineer (Roads and Traffic), Municipal engineering hub, E Moses road, Worli.

Or they can email at dycherdsplg@yahoo.co.in
