The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has advised devotees to wear gumboots while entering the Arabian Sea during Ganesh idol immersions.
The precautionary measures also include increasing floating platforms and boats -- the number of boats will increase from four to six and floating platforms this year will be four instead of two.
A team of four doctors with a cardiac ambulance and a normal ambulance will be present on the immersion days apart from the BMC doctors who are deployed at the spot. The BMC will put up extra floodlights at the immersion points and will also increase security measures.
A BMC officer said, "We will take all extra measures to take care of the devotees at the time of immersion and have also requested the devotees to not go to the south side of the sea since the fishes are noticed on that side."
Naresh Dahibavkar, the President of Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti, said, "We have been in touch with BMC to take care of all the problems that occurred last time, especially the fish attack at Girgaum chowpatty and they have assured us that all the extra care will be taken."
