The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is presenting its Budget for the year 2018-19. BMC chief Ajoy Mehta is presenting the civic body's budget for 2018-19.
BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta presents financial budget of Rs 27,258 for year 2018-19. Last year civic body had slashed budget to make it more 'realistic'. It was Rs 25,141 crores in 2017-18 compare to Rs 37, 052 crores in 2016-17.
BMC claims to achieve huge rise in capital expenditure of 58.71% for the city's development compare to last year. Civic body was criticised for low expenditure in past.
Ajoy Mehta has not announced any tax increase in this year's budget.
BMC makes provision of Rs 8472 crores for Urban Poor in its budget.
The financial situation of BMC is in tight position as various source of income fell short of target. Following proposed mega projects to be undertaken from next financial year BMC will first time widraw of funds Rs 2743 crores from special reserve funds.
BMC proposes to increase fee/charges of few services like factory permit, license fees for wholesale market, fee for medical treatment in BMC hospitals.
Residents of buildings without OC gets relief as BMC proposes to decide give them water on regular rate. Currently, such buildings without OC pay double water charges.
Budget provision of Rs 1500 crore for Coastal Road and Rs 100 crore has been made for GMLR. Escalators will be installed at all skywalks.
BMC increases health budget from Rs 2,774 to Rs 3,379 crore.
BMC proposes Rs 10 crore budget for Swachh Bharat Mission.
For Mumbai Fire Brigade BMC plans to buy new 3 hydraulic platform of 64 meters, 6 new high volume long range water cum foam monitor will be purchased. The budgetary provision for the upgradation is Rs 180 crore.
Under Night shelter support scheme BMC proposes to start 25 night shelters. At present only 10 shelter homes are functioning. Rs 5 crore provision has been made in budget for the same.
For Mumbai Sewerage Disposal Projects the BMC has allocated Rs 538.15 crores for year 2018-19. BMC is supposed to construct and upgrade seven sewerage treatment plants across city to reduce the sea contamination.
Budget for road improvement in city has been increased about Rs 200 crore from last year's Rs 1867 crore. For this financial year 2018-19 BMC allocated Rs 2058 crores for Road department.
BMC will commission the Powai to Veravali water tunnel arm by June 2018. It will improve water supply in part of western and eastern suburbs. The second arm Powai to Ghatkopar is expected to start by December 2019. Budget provision of Rs 35 crore is made.
BMC plans to recycle and reuse of treated waste water for industrial and non potable purpose. Civic body hopes to get 1700 million litres daily after treatment of waste waters.
BMC proposed to scrap 'Pay and Use Toilet' concept and make these toilet facilities free to public. Also, existing 'pay and use toilets' will be taken over by #BMC & new toilets will be constructed by civic body.
