The MIDC police have arrested an auto driver for a burglary at a Marol liquor shop in July. Mohammed Sharif Mohammed Salim Sheikh alias Guddu (27) was the alleged accomplice to three men who looted Rs 1.3 lakh from Preeti Wine Shop on July 30.

The alleged masterminds are still at large.

According to the police, Guddu and one Hussain Shaikh became friends over ganja smoking sessions at Mankhurd a few months ago. Shaikh asked Guddu to meet him on the night of July 30 in Chheda Nagar, Ghatkopar, at 9 pm, on the pretext of a job. He told Guddu to wait outside the liquor shop, and raise an alarm if he saw anybody approaching. Unaware of the goings-on, Guddu played guard, while Shaikh, along with two others, looted the shop.

On September 13, while Guddu was waiting to collect his promised loot at SEEPZ, Andheri, a patrolling van of MIDC police noticed him. On being questioned, Guddu confessed to his crime.
