Authorities blame commuters as increasing number of local train compartments splattered with excreta, urine and used condoms
Instances where miscreants have smeared seats, windows and doors of first class compartments of local trains with human excreta and condoms filled with urine are on the rise.
The latest such incident occurred on Thursday, when commuters on a CST-bound local train on the Harbour Line found their seats, windows and roof smeared with human waste.

Kunal Lalvani (24), a third-year law student at KC College, explained, "I boarded the first-class compartment of the Mankhurd-CST local at 8.06 am from Govandi.
I saw everyone avoiding a section of the train. Then I saw the mess on the seats and the floor.

"At CST, I went to lodge a complaint with the stationmaster.
As he was not present in his cabin, I informed a ticket collector, who assured me that he would get someone to clean the mess. A few moments later, the train left the platform with the mess still on it."
Similarly, on July 24, last year, commuters who boarded the ladies' compartment of the 9.27 pm Dadar-Virar fast local, had to cope with overpowering stench from condoms filled with urine that hung from the handrails and window grills of the first-class compartment. Eight more condoms were strewn on the seats.
A K Singh, PRO of Central Railway, said, "It is commuters who do such things in the compartments. If anyone sees something like this happening, they should immediately call our helpline.
Railway officials at the next station will rush to their assistance."
