The 15-year-old however maintains that she had gone weak due to fasting during Navratri and she slipped into the lake. The rescue drama took place around 10.30 am, when a sub-inspector Ganeshwar Shete heard a girl screaming and rushed to the spot.
Shete and his team including three constables were at a distance of 100 meters from the spot and they noticed that she was floating on the lake near the ordnance factory. They quickly formed a human chain and reached the spot after which Shete threw his leather belt, while holding its one end. The girl caught the belt and was brought to the shore.
After she normalised, the Ambernath police interrogated her, who then told them that she is a FYJC student and she is in love with a college boy. Her mother is opposed to the relationship and both of them fought over this on Wednesday. The mother threatened to end her life, if the minor did not end the affair. The daughter chose to end hers, instead.
However, the police have not booked her in any case and she was allowed to go home after some questioning.
