The accused, identified as Dixit Raghvendra Karkera, was picked up by the Khar police after his ex-girlfriend accused him of having raped her over several years. Karkera is a resident of Khar (West) and owns a garage, while the 29-year-old complainant owns a beauty parlour in Malad.
They started seeing each other 14 years ago, after the woman took admission in a Bandra college, where Karkera was also a student. Even after they passed out of college, the two continued seeing each other, and also maintained physical relations. After completing their studies, Karkera opened a garage while the complainant set up her beauty parlour.
The couple also had plans for marriage. “A month ago, however, Karkera and the complainant started fighting after Karkera told her that he was not ready to marry her yet. The woman insisted that Karkera marry her, but he would not budge from his decision,” said a Khar police official.
Last week, the woman approached Khar police station and filed a complaint against Karkera, saying that he had raped her after promising marriage. Karkera was arrested and remanded in police custody by the Bandra court.
