He called Patel’s residence but nobody answered the phone. When he went to Patel’s home at Bhagatwadi, Charni Road, he found that the 35-year-old man had been murdered.

The incident came to light yesterday at 12 pm when Rawal couldn’t get in touch with Patel and went to his house to check on him. The deceased was lying in a pool of blood, with a knife in his neck. The manager immediately informed his seniors and the VP Road police station.

According to the police, Patel used to stay at Bhagatwadi with two colleagues, as their employers had allotted them the house. “The trio used to take home all the cash that was collected in the office, at the end of the day,” informed an officer from VP Road police station. The two co-workers, who are absconding, are now the prime suspects.

The officer also said that Patel had been seen in his home till 9 am yesterday. The killers also managed to walk away with Rs 3.7 lakh. “Inquiries revealed that a sum of Rs 3.7 lakh, which was in possession of Patel, was also missing,” said Senior Inspector Rajendra Chavan of VP Road police station. Cops have registered a murder case against the two.
