Asks BMC chief to check feasibility of using plastic waste to lay roads
After Shiv Sena minister Ramdas Kadam announced a ban on plastic across the state from next year onwards, a few days ago he declared a ban on plastic bottles at the Mantralaya. Now, Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray, too, has jumped on the bandwagon, asking the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration to come up with ways to utilise plastic waste.

Aaditya has asked civic chief Ajoy Mehta to study the feasibility of using plastic waste for laying roads, an idea promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year. The Central government's guidelines also state that plastic waste like cups and bags of up to 60 microns can be used for laying roads.
Plastic bottles clog a drain
According to the environment status report 2016-2017, three per cent of 9,400 metric tonnes of daily generated waste is plastic, whereas experts have claimed that it could be more than three per cent. In a series of tweets on Saturday, he said, "Along with the plastic ban across the state, I req Hon'ble MC to have a feasibility study on whether the waste/confiscated plastic can be used in making roads or in other essential activities."
