The Worli police on yesterday registered a case of rape and murder after a nine-year-old girl’s body was found within 100 metres of the tenement where she resided with her family.u00a0

An official from Worli police station said, “The victim belonged to a poor family. The child, along with her entire family, had gone to sleep after dinner on Monday. But when the family members woke up the next morning around 6.30, they couldn’t locate the girl.”
When they began looking for her, they stumbled upon her lifeless body a little distance away from their house. It had several injury marks.
“After they found the body, they informed the police control room about the incident. A wireless van was dispatched to the spot and the nine-year-old was rushed to Nair Hospital. She was declared dead after admission,” added the official.
During the medical examination, it came to light that the victim had been raped before being killed.
A case has been registered against the unidentified culprit under sections 376 (rape) and 302 (murder) of the IPC, along with sections 5 and 6 of the Child Protection Act.u00a0
