The Pydhonie police arrested three men in a robbery case that included 6.5 kg gold ornaments, worth '1.87 crore on Saturday. Of this, 1.654 kg gold worth '45 lakh has been recovered.

On the night of September 17, ornament dealer Mukeshkumar Sanghvi, accompanied by his nephew and staffer, left his workshop carrying 6.5 kg gold ornaments to travel to Varanasi. While on his way to CST, the cab driver stopped the vehicle on the pretext of answering nature’s call. According to Sanghvi’s statement, two men swooped in on a bike, pushed them out of the cab and drove away with the ornaments.

Sanghavi approached the Pydhonie police and lodged a complaint. Investigations revealed that the taxi used in the robbery belonged to Badruddin Khan, who said that his son Shahnawaz (22) had fled with his taxi.

Shahnawaz was later taken into custody. With his help, the police arrested two more men involved in the crime. “We believe there are more men involved, but they are still absconding,” said Sandeep Karnik, DCP, Zone 2.
