Jitin Dedhia had hired two goons to kill his wife and make it look like a robbery gone wrong

2009 Kalachowkie murder: Husband, supari killers convicted

A sessions court yesterday convicted Jitin Dedhia and two of his friends for murdering Jitin’s wife at Kalachowkie in 2009 to pave way for his marriage with his girlfriend. Jitin had initially misled the cops by trying to portray the murder as a chain-snatching incident gone wrong. Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay V Patil convicted Jitin, Hasruddin Malik and Nazim Khan for murder and conspiracy. However, Rajnikant Wagh — to whom Jitin gave the contract to kill Beena — was acquitted of all charges.

The case dates back to October 27, 2009, when Jitin and Beena were attacked buy two motorcycle-borne assailants while they were out on their usual morning walk. It was Malik and Khan who attacked the couple around 5.30 am and slit Beena’s throat before fleeing the spot. Jitin, who injured his left hand in the attack, had then told the cops that the robbers stole Beena’s chain as well.

But a thorough probe revealed that it wasn’t a case of robbery gone awry, but a pre-planned murder. Based on the proof gathered, cops arrested Jitin, his girlfriend, Malik, Khan and Wagh, two months after the incident. Investigation further revealed that Jitin hatched the plot to kill Beena so that he could marry his girlfriend — Beena’s brother’s wife — for which he gave a contract to Wagh and hired services of his friends Malik and Khan. Cops said the plot was hatched after Beena refused to divorce Jitin.

During the course of investigation, cops recovered the knife used to attack Beena, bloodstained clothes, the bike used in the crime and the money Jitin gave to the killers. Some of the incriminating evidences produced in the court were the call detail records (CDR) of the accused and Beena’s photograph — for identification — which the rider had on him at the time of crime.
