Application of Muzammil Ansari, convict in the triple bomb blasts of 2002-03 hints at mental disability, states he can’t recall or grasp things or talk coherently
Staring at the noose, Muzammil Ansari is making a last-ditch attempt at leniency.

The convict in the triple bomb blasts of 2002-03 whose punishment could range from life imprisonment to a death sentence, has moved an application before the special POTA court, requesting an IQ test before announcing his quantum of sentence.

The application states that Ansari’s physical and mental health has been deteriorating, he is unable to recall and understand things, and finds it difficult to offer explanations to people. “In the interest of justice, it is imperative to send Ansari to a psychological assessment test and check his IQ level, and direct them (the authorities) to produce the report before court to be considered for the appropriate quantum of sentence,” it reads.
The application also points out that the case doesn’t fall under the rarest of rare category and, hence, a death sentence shouldn’t be awarded to him.
Ansari was convicted for his role in planting the bombs in Mumbai between December 2002 and March 2003.
