While Sanjay Dutt seems to have no trouble getting parole in repeated succession, 70-year-old Zaibunnisa Kazi is still in the dark over whether she will get an extension on her parole and she just has two days to find out. Zaibunnisa, who was convicted for five years under TADA in the 1993 bomb blast case, applied for an extension in the first week of February, on medical grounds.

Zaibunissa’s daughter Shagufta Kazi said, “There are only two days left, and there is no reply from the state Home Ministry on whether my mother’s parole is getting extended.” A source close to the family said, “Other convicts who have been convicted under TADA get extension; don’t know why only Zaibunnisa faces problems.” In her application to the Home Ministry, Shagufta has asked for an extension, stating that her mother is not well, and that she is undergoing treatment.
It maybe recalled that the Pune Divisional Commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh had rejected her parole application, after which Zaibunnisa applied to the state Home Ministry, which kept her application pending for nearly 10 weeks before granting her parole, last time. Zaibunnisa, who was released on January 23, has to return to Yerawada Jail before 12.30 pm on February 23. But the family says they are hopeful that she will get an extension.
