The 17-car Deccan Queen is the only train in the country which has a dining car, with a seating capacity of 40 diners, for regular passenger use. mid-day has been following up on developments related to the train since February 2019. The train is now being upgraded with German-design Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches.
“The coaches have arrived from manufacturers Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and will not be brought into immediate use. The dining car, which has been elegantly designed, is in the making and should arrive in the city soon. Once the train is complete, we will bring in public use with fanfare,” a senior official said. The new colour was chosen after consultations with commuters, onboard regular travellers and all stakeholders. “The ‘Restrained Imperium design’ attempts to embody the imperium of the queen which is powerful yet understated, with hints of dynamic elements in a linear flow, embellished with details from our heritage,” the NID final concept note said.
Explaining in detail, it said the dominant colour is present in the flowing element of the design. The detailing and the curve graphics are produced in two colours on opposite ends of the body. The ends are painted in dark grey, and the front of the driver cabs are painted with a yellow front for night-time visibility. For accessibility reasons, doors are in contrast colour to make them stand out.
