With investigations into the Honda Activa parked at the July 13 blast site at Opera House reaching a dead end, the state ATS is now chasing a biker on a Yamaha FZ series motorcycle who allegedly conducted a recce of the spot nearly 4 times before the bomb went off.

CCTV footage obtained from cameras around the spot show the biker on the red motorcycle and a pillion rider visiting the area 3 to 4 times on the day of the blast, studying it and leaving in a few minutes.

A man is later seen walking into the camera's field of vision, dropping a bag and walking away.

With reports of the investigation being transferred to the National Investigating Agency doing the rounds, ATS sources say this is one of the last visual clues they have to solve the blasts case.

They say the investigating agency is going all guns blazing and is showing the footage to informers
from the area to ascertain the biker and the pillion rider's identity.

"With the Activa giving us no leads, we are banking heavily on this fresh evidence to help us crack the case.

The footage is very grainy but we're hoping that the informers will be able to help us identify the biker and the pillion rider," said a senior ATS official.

The two mechanics detained in connection with the theft of the Activa scooter found at the site were eventually set free after they denied any role in the blasts despite sustained interrogation.

The ATS had earlier been convinced that the thieves, once found, would lead them to the bomb planter.
