As many as 100 activists and office bearers of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Kalyan unit have resigned from the party protesting over the nomination of the members of the transport committee of the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC).

The activists lead by district committee member Subhash Mhaske along with several other office bearers such as Narendra Suryavanshi, Maruti Khabale and Prakash Nerurkar sent their resignations to district president Dinesh Tawade and MLA Harishchandra Patil.

"We have been working for the party for the last 22 to 25 years, but we have not been given anything till now. During the elections to the education committee, the party top brass promised that we would be nominated to the transport committee. Now, when the time for transport committee nominations came, they gave us some lame excuse and told us that we would be accommodated later. But, Tawade and Patil nominated their close associates to the committee," said Mhaske.

Patil defended himself saying the cadre was angry and would be spoken to. "They have given their resignations as they are angry. We will try to make them understand and won't let them leave the party," said Patil.

Nayan Pawar, deputy mayor of KDMC said, "They all are aspirants and they feel they should be given the posts. But we had to choose two from 26 aspirants and whoever has not been given a chance will get it."
