“Five armed people attacked Pevar with chopper and a sword and then beheaded him,” said Jayendra Sawant, API of Dadar police station.
Police said the accused left the weapons near the crime scene and fled. “The weapons that we have recovered are used in the villages of southern India,” said Dhanajay Kulkarni, DCP of Zone V.
Deadly affair
According to cops, the idli vendor’s slaughter is the third murder in the bloodied love saga. Narrating the turn of events, Kulkarni said, “Pevar had gone to attend a relative’s wedding in Tirunelveli district around two years ago. That’s where he met Rama, who was preparing for IAS, and love blossomed between the two.”
Despite resistance from Rama’s family, Pevar eloped with her and came to Mumbai. “Pevar brought the girl to his house in Koliwada, Sion and married her. Interestingly, he had already tied the knot with a woman named Rani in his village and they had two kids,” said Kulkarni.
He added that Pevar’s second marriage angered Rani’s family. “Also, when Rama’s brothers found out about Pevar’s previous marriage, they too were infuriated,” he said.
In a fit of rage, Rama’s brothers killed Pevar’s 70-year-old father Pecchi Muthu. To avenge the death of his father, Pevar went back to his hometown and killed one of the Rama’s five brothers.
After he and his friends, was arrested on charge of murder, he procured bail and returned to Mumbai. Recently Pevar’s brother had approached the Antop Hill police and had lodged a complaint of threat to Pevar’s life from the brothers of both his wives.
“Pevar has two children from Rani and a year-old kid from Rama. We suspect involvement of deceased’s second wife’s brothers in the killing, and have sent a team to Tamil Nadu to look for them. Besides, we’ll interrogate Rani’s brothers to check if they had any role in the murder,” said Sawant.u00a0
