Sailor Dharampal Rawat's wife was stabbed 11 times by his colleague in the Navy

A day before Ramchandran Pillai (31), a radio officer with the Indian Navy, stabbed his colleague's wife, he had sent a threatening text message to her husband. On February 13, Dharampal Rawat (39), a sailor, received the SMS from Pillai that read, "Main Comcen [communication office in INS Angre] se bhaag chuka hoon, main tumhara murder karunga." The next day, Pillai stabbed Rawat's wife, Anita, 11 times with a knife.

"I am scared for my family. Pillai has threatened to kill my children and me. My kids have not gone to school since the incident," said Rawat.

No remorse

However, Pillai expressed no remorse over his actions. "Everything is finished, whatever has happened has happened," Pillai told MiD DAY. The radio officer has been booked on charges of attempt to murder, wrongful confinement and house trespass.

Trouble had been brewing between Pillai and the Rawats over a period of time. "Pillai was harassing Anita over the phone since a few months and had planned to forcibly elope with her. He had threatened Anita if she revealed his plans to anyone," explained Rawat.

What happened

On February 13, Pillai visited Rawat's house in Navy Nagar and declared his love for Anita before her husband. "I love your wife and I want to live with her," Pillai told Rawat, adding that he had even carried a ring for her. An altercation ensued between the two and Pillai, in a fit of rage, hit Rawat with his helmet. Rawat registered a complaint with the naval police against Pillai who was put under observation.

On Saturday, Rawat was at the INS Ashwini Hospital where his father has been admitted for a heart ailment. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Pillai went to Rawat's building terrace and scaled down the scaffolding into Anita's home. He first threatened Rawat's kids Sunita (12), Sangeeta (8) (names changed) and mother Bimla (55) with a knife and then barged into the bathroom where Anita was washing clothes.

He locked the door from inside and repeatedly stabbed Anita. She kept shouting, 'Mummy, mujhe bachao. Mujhe isne maara', but nobody came for help. An hour later, Pillai screamed, 'I have killed her, rush her to a hospital.' An ambulance was called and Anita was taken to the INS Ashwini Hospital where she is battling for her life. Pillai, who slashed his left wrist, was treated for the minor injury and is in police custody. Contrary to reports, Pillai was not drunk at the time of the incident.

Pillai told the police that he has been in Mumbai for five years and has a daughter. Pillai's wife Heena and Anita were on talking terms and soon, both families developed a good relationship. However, Pillai reportedly developed a liking for Anita, which gradually led to problems.
