On April 22, 2018, around 7.30 pm, Sachin Sawant a Shiv Sena's leader closed the party office in Kranti Nagar, located in Kandivli and was walking home when assailants shot at him. The first bullet missed Sawant, and he started running. He ran for about 200 metres, while the attackers gave chase and kept firing at him. One of the bullets hit Sawant in the chest, and he collapsed near a temple. The locals informed Sawant's family, and his son and other relatives and friends rushed him to the nearest private hospital. Doctors at Shatabdi declared him dead. The Mumbai Police later arrested several people in connection with the murder
In April 2019, a neighbourhood in Bhayander West was on the edge when a 45-year-old man with blood-stained hands was found yelling from the window of his house, claiming that he had killed his mother. Locals alerted the police who immediately rushed to the spot, only to find a senior citizen lying dead on the floor. The man, identified as Sonath Mitra was arrested for allegedly killing his 85-year-old mother, Rama. The incident took place in Pratiksha Building near Madvi Lake in Bhayander West
Rehan Qureshi was accused of abusing more than 20 children across Navi Mumbai, Thane and Palghar since 2015, and raping and murdering two children in Nehru Nagar in 2010. The rape-murder cases had rocked the Kurla locality years ago but remained unsolved until October 2018 when DNA examination in one of the Navi Mumbai cases pointed towards Qureshi's involvement in the Kurla cases too. In 2018, an alert OLA cab driver helped the police crack a murder case of a 23-year-old woman. The police arrested a 19-year-old youth for the murder. According to police sources, the accused and the victim knew each other and met at the accused's flat in Millat Nagar in Jogeshwari West. After having sex, the couple had an argument and the accused picked a wooden stool and hit the woman on her head. When she fell to the ground, he strangled her until she stopped breathing. He then stuffed her lifeless body into a travelling bag. He decided to use an OLA cab to dispose of the body but the alert Ola driver had seen the accused abandoning the bag and he called the cops. The police arrived at the scene and found the woman's body inside. As the cab driver had the accused's details, he took the cops straight to his house, from where he was taken into custody
A 57-year-old diamond merchant, Rajeshwar Udani who was missing from Ghatkopar East, was found dead in a car at Panvel, Navi Mumbai. He had gone missing on November 28, 2018, when he left home to allegedly meet a woman in Andheri. His family told the police that they had not heard from him since then and that they suspected foul play. The case was finally cracked when the Pant Nagar police arrested Sachin Pawar — a BJP member and a police constable, Dinesh Pawar. BJP worker Sachin Pawar was jealous that diamond merchant Rajeshwar Udani was chatting up his girlfriend, and that's likely why he plotted his murder
On January 23, 2019, hundreds of micro-pieces of human flesh were recovered from the blocked drainage of a housing society in Virar West. The matter came to light when residents of Bachraj Paradise of Evershine Avenue complained of a choked drainage system and saw three pieces of human fingers floating in the drain when it was opened for repair. Within 24 hours the Arnala coastal police cracked the case and arrested Pintoo Sharma, the prime accused who pleaded guilty after sustained grilling by the police. Pintoo Sharma told police that he banged the head of his 58-year-old friend Ganesh after the latter delayed to repay him over Rs. 1 lakh in cash
A property dealer was shot dead outside Pushpak bar in Mira-Bhayander Road in a firing incident in 2015 that also resulted in the death of his friend. Police suspected the attack may have been caused by professional rivalry. Mira Road resident Vijay Pradhan alias Bunty, who is the proprietor of Dolphin Properties was drinking with his friends and cousin at Pushpak bar in the Golden Nest locality. No sooner had Pradhan and his friends stepped out, they were attacked by two men on motorcycles. The unidentified assailants opened four rounds of fire, shooting Pradhan in the head. One of his friends, Sachin Vijaykar, was also shot. He was taken to Thunga Hospital in Mira Road, where he later died due to bullet wounds
Sheena Bora was allegedly killed in cold blood by her mother Indrani Mukerjea with the help of Indrani's ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, and driver Shyamvar Rai in a car in April 2012. However, the incident came to light in August 2015 after Mukerjea's driver Shyamvar Rai, was arrested by police for possessing a firearm, however, during interrogation Rai confessed about the murder incident also. The Mumbai Police arrested Indrani, Khanna, and Rai for allegedly killing Sheena. Later, Indrani's husband Peter was also arrested for allegedly being part of the conspiracy to kill Sheena
In August 1997, T-Series Gulshan Kumar was shot dead outside Jeeteshwar Mahadev Mandir in Andheri by two men who fired three bullets at him. When he tried to crawl to safety, the killers accosted him and pumped 15 more bullets into his body. Actress Priya Rajvansh, who is best remembered for her performance in 'Heer Raanjha' (1970) and 'Hanste Zakhm' (1973), was found dead in the bathroom of filmmaker Chetan Anand's Ruia Park bungalow in Juhu in 2000. She apparently had a long-standing relationship with Anand and after his demise, inherited one-third of his property with the rest being divided between Ketan Anand and Vivek Anand, his sons from an earlier marriage. A dispute regarding the seafront bungalow was cited as the motive with the needle of suspicion pointed to the two stepsons

Gurgaon gangster Sandeep Gadoli, who had 36 criminal offences against him, was killed after a shootout with the Gurgaon Police in an Andheri hotel in 2017 where he was with his girlfriend. An eight-member team led by Gurgaon police sub-inspector entered the hotel around 11 am and carried out the encounter. The Gurgaon police said later that they 'retaliated with crossfire' when Gadoli fired at them. Gadoli's family had, however, alleged it was a fake encounter
Bhiwandi corporator Manoj Mhatre (Congress) was killed by masked assailants who shot at him and assaulted him with sharp knives. Narpoli police registered a murder case after he succumbed to his injuries. The assailants ambushed Mhatre when he got home around 9 pm. After his driver dropped him off, Mhatre was walking home when at least five persons attacked him with sharp knives and fired two rounds. Mhatre breathed his last at Jupiter Hospital

A 61-year-old RTI activist was shot dead in the head when he was watching TV. Deceased Bhupendra Vira's wife Ranjana was present in the house when the murder was committed, yet she didn't hear a thing. Two persons, including a former corporator, were later arrested.
In 2016, three robbers on a bike shot Ashok Ramanlal Shah, a rice trader in Virar and stole Rs 8 lakh from him. Cops said that the accused opened fire at the trader while he was keeping his bag containing the cash in his Scooty's storage case. Ashok Sawant, 62, a two-term Shiv Sena corporator from Samata Nagar in suburban Kandivli, was attacked with while he was returning home after meeting a friend. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in Kandivli but was declared dead on arrival
Builder Jinesh Jain was gunned down by two unidentified assailants in burkhas in his Chunabhatti office in 2016. Two burkha-clad hitmen entered Everard Nagar in Chunabhatti, asked for Jain and then shot him twice. Jain, who was not fatally injured, got up after they escaped, and went to the hospital. The entire incident was recorded on CCTV
In 2015, an estate agent Ajay Kumar Gupta who was on a motorbike heading to Gorai with his 6-year-old son and a friend was shot dead. When the bullet hit Gupta, he lost control of the bike and all three of them fell down. While Gupta succumbed to his injuries, his friend informed the police that unidentified assailants had shot him. During the investigation, it was found the bullet was fired from a point-blank range and therefore the police picked up Gupta's friend and pillion rider. A contractor working for a real estate developer was shot at by unknown assailant in north Mumbai's Malad area. Sources in the police confirmed to mid-day that the developer had received extortion calls and the firing incident, which took place in the Shivaji Nagar locality near Ramesh Hotel in Malad East, was a fallout
