Two Nigerian nationals were arrested for allegedly carrying high-grade cocaine with an estimated value of Rs 1.19 crore in Mira Road area of Thane district in Maharashtra, police said on Monday, reported the PTI. The police stopped the duo roaming suspiciously on November 30. Their frisking led to the recovery of 150 grams of high-quality cocaine with an estimated value of Rs 1,19,40,000, a crime branch official said. The duo was booked under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he said, adding that further investigation is underway, the news agency reported on Monday. Indian Coast Guard seizes 5,500 kg drugs in Andaman waters Meanwhile, in an another incident, 5,500 kg of banned Methamphetamine drug seized from a fishing trawler with six Myanmarese crew near Barren island is the biggest-ever seizure made by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), an official of the Andaman and Nicobar tri-services command had said last week on Tuesday. Assam Rifles, Mizoram Police seize banned 'meth' tablets worth Rs 68 cr near Myanmar border Assam Rifles along with Mizoram Police on Monday seized banned methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 68 crore near the India-Myanmar border in Champhai district, an officer said. Acting on a tip-off, the Assam Rifles and the police jointly launched an operation in Zokhawthar village and recovered 22.6 kg of the banned tablets, he said. Methamphetamine is a powerful, highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system. During the operation, the joint team observed the movement of a suspect crossing the Tiau river with a brown sack. On being challenged, the individual ran away towards Myanmar leaving the consignment there, the officer said. According to the police, the accused was wanted by the Hyderabad Police in a Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and he had been living in a building under the jurisdiction of Kashimira Police Station in Mira Road. The Hyderabad police had arrived to apprehend the accused, but in a bid to escape, he tried to scale down the building. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. In the video the man can been seen dangling from a balcony at the upper floors of a high-rise building whereas the police can been seen attempting to save him with a safety net in the compound of the building. "To ensure his safety, a net was placed below as a precaution in case he fell. Local police, Hyderabad police, and fire brigade officials coordinated efforts to rescue him. The accused was ultimately saved and he was later handed over to the Hyderabad Police by the Kashimira Police.

The accused promised monthly returns 12-15 times on the initial investment in a cryptocurrency scheme to lure potential investors between May 2022 and March 2024, he said. "They lured people by meeting them and also contacting them over the phone, and assured lucrative returns on their investment in cryptocurrencies," the official said. The victims were left high and dry as the accused stopped answering their calls and never returned the investment, he added. Nobody has been arrested so far, said a Thane Nagar police station official, the news agency reported. Among the investors are a 41-year-old mobile repair technician and others, an official said. Meanwhile, in an another incident, the police have arrested two persons for allegedly duping a businessman of nearly Rs 18 crore by illegally selling him a land owned by the Maharashtra government's agency CIDCO in Navi Mumbai, an official said on Monday, reported the PTI. The businessman in a police complaint filed last year claimed he was lured into investing money in the land, the official said. The incident took place in a building in Almeida Park area in Bandra west on Saturday, the Bandra police station official added. "The 57-year-old accused started talking to the victim on the staircase of the building on his acting ambitions and on the pretext of measuring his height sexually assaulted him," the official said, according to the PTI. The boy later reached out to the police which registered a case and later nabbed the suspect. "On the complaint of the boy, a case was registered and the man was held on Saturday by the police. He was booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act," the official added. Man gets 10 years in jail for repeatedly raping minor girl, wife convicted for abetting crime Meanwhile, in an another incident in Thane, A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences court in Maharashtra's Thane district has sentenced a couple to 10 years in jail in connection with the repeated rape of a minor girl, as per the PTI. The special POCSO Judge, in her order of November 29, also fined the couple who are the residents of Mira Road, Rs 25,000 each. According to the PTI, the accused, in 2010, befriended the minor girl, who used to come to his the building in which he stayed since her mother and grandmother worked as housekeeping staff there. The man raped her several times, as per the prosecution represented by advocates Rekha Hiwrale and Varsha Chandane. They said that the accused's wife encouraged her husband to sexually abuse the girl. The minor girl also got pregnant during this period. The court said the couple was being sentenced to the minimum punishment under section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act since the two are now senior citizens and are also facing other criminal cases, the news agency reported. The Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating the murder case which was initially registered at Byculla Police Station in central Mumbai. "The provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999 (MCOC Act), have been invoked in the case," said an official. He added that case the case has been registered under Sections 103 (1), 238, and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act, and Sections 37 and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act (MPA). As of now, three accused have been arrested and the investigation in case is ongoing. Sachin Kurmi, 43, of the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), was allegedly attacked by at least three individuals in Byculla in October this year. He was attacked with a sharp weapon several times, inflicting injuries to his head and abdomen, leading to his death, an official had earlier said. The police had later made arrest of three accused in the case and had identified the accused persons as Ananda Kale alias Anya, a driver; Vijay Kakde alias Papya, a delivery boy; and Prafull Parkar, a photographer. The police had said that the arrests were made based on witness statements and CCTV footage recovered from the incident spot. The move comes days after the Mumbai Crime Branch had invoked MCOCA in the Ajit Pawar-led NCP leader Baba Siddique murder case. The police had earlier said that the provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999 (MCOCA), have been invoked in the case. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to uncover details surrounding the incident. So far, 26 accused have been arrested in connection with the case. However, three individuals—Shubham Rameshwar Lonkar, Zishan Mohammad Akhtar, and Anmol Bishnoi—remain at large and are being actively pursued by law enforcement.

According to one of the victim's relatives, Pumiya, her husband Vishal and their two-year-old daughter were going to a relative's house in Mulund on their bike on November 31. Pumiya was seated as a pillion passenger while her husband was riding the two-wheeler. "When they reached near Fortis Hospital, a truck hit their bike. All the three people sustained injuries and were rushed to Fortis Hospital. While Vishal and the couple's daughter suffered minor injuries, the doctors declared Pumiya dead on arrival. We have registered an FIR (first information report) and further investigation is ongoing,” a police officer said. Pumiya's relatives have demanded strict action as the police have not found any clue against the truck driver who has been on the run for two days after the accident. “The police have registered an FIR but it's been 18 hours and they have no leads on the accused's whereabouts. Her husband and two-year-old daughter are still in a state of shock after Amruta's sudden demise. We demand strict action against the driver of the truck,” the relative quoted above said on Sunday.

The accused personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have been issued notices in connection with the Navi Mumbai road rage incident which took place at 10.15 pm on November 29, they said, reported PTI. Some buses were ferrying the CISF personnel to their quarters in Navi Mumbai's Kharghar area from Mumbai airport. While moving towards Sector 36 in Kharghar, a speeding bus came dangerously close to a car between Utsav Chowk and Central Park, an official said, reported PTI. The car owner, who is a doctor by profession and also a local functionary of a political party, chased the bus and asked its driver to stop the vehicle, he said. The car owner objected to the bus driver's rash driving following which an argument broke out. By the time, five-six CISF personnel stepped out of the bus, confronted the doctor and allegedly assaulted him, the official said, reported PTI. Some CISF personnel also allegedly hit the doctor's brother and friend and broke the windshield of his car, he said. Later, the doctor lodged a complaint against the CISF personnel at Kharghar police station. The complainant also claimed that some of the CISF personnel involved in the attack were under the influence of alcohol, but fled after the Navi Mumbai road rage incident, the official said, reported PTI. A case has been registered against 10 to 15 CISF personnel under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rioting and assault and notices have been issued to them, he said. The Shivaji Nagar Police have arrested 21-year-old Awez Qureshi on charges of brutally assaulting his 17-year-old sister-in-law and attempting to kill her by stabbing her with a knife. The incident occurred in the Rafiq Nagar Gavndi area. According to reports, the accused had arrived to take his wife back to their in-laws' house. However, when his wife, who was staying at her parental home, refused to leave, it led to an argument between the couple. During the altercation, the accused's 17-year-old sister-in-law attempted to intervene and calm the situation. This infuriated the accused, who violently assaulted her. He reportedly threw her to the ground, pinned her down by sitting on her chest, and brutally beat her before stabbing her with a knife. The severely injured girl was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital for treatment, where she is currently receiving care. Her condition is reported to be stable. Following the incident, the Shivaji Nagar Police arrested the accused based on a complaint filed by his mother-in-law. A case has been registered against him on charges, including attempted murder.

Teacher booked for beating up minor student in Thane Meanwhile, in an another incident, The Thane Police have registered a case against a woman teacher in Maharashtra's Thane district for allegedly beating up a seven-year-old student after he was unable to properly read an English word in her class, an official said on Sunday, reported the PTI. The incident took place at a private school located in Ambernath area of Thane district on November 28, the official said. The FIR did not mention in which class the boy was studying. The child could not read the English text properly, following which his class teacher got angry and allegedly hit him with a scale on his leg and back, causing injuries to him, an official from Ambernath West police station said, according to the PTI. The boy later complained to his mother, who approached the police. Based on a complaint by the child's mother, the police on Friday registered the First Information Report (FIR) against the teacher under section 118 (1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the official said, the news agency reported on Sunday.
