The Badlapur Police in Maharashtra's Thane district have arrested a watchman of a society for allegedly molesting a 25-year-old specially abled woman, an official said on Friday.

The incident, captured on CCTV footage of the building, was noticed by the parents of the victim who then approached the police to file a complaint, the official said.

During the investigation, the police found that the suspect committed the offense under the pretext of taking the keys of the society's office from her, sources said.

Sources added that the woman lived with her parents, while her sister also resided in the same building.

They said, the victim would usually visit her sister daily in the morning. The keys to the society office were kept at their house, and the watchman would come to retrieve them.

"Two days ago, the victim was returning from her sister's house in the same building when the watchman approached her, requesting the key to the society office. He accompanied her and molested her while she was opening the door. He later repeated the same act," said a police officer.

The police said that the complainant's elder daughter approached her and asked to check the CCTV footage on the floor where the incident took place.

"They checked the CCTV footage and learnt about the incident. Later they approached the police and filed a complaint," the officer said.

The Badlapur Police arrested the suspect on Friday and are further investigating the matter.

A case has been registered under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the watchman.
