A fresh case has been registered against former manager of Axis Bank, Anil Dubey, for criminal breach of trust as staffers found Rs 26.84 lakh missing during the audit on Friday. The case has been registered at Valiv police station

Dubey, who is in police custody, allegedly attempted robbery at ICICI Bank in Virar East on Thursday evening. He murdered branch manager Yogita Chaudhary and grievously injured cashier Shraddha Devrukhkar during the robbery attempt.

Confirming that the case has been registered, zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sanjay Kumar Patil said, “The FIR has been registered against Dubey as misappropriation of funds was found during audit.”

Sources at the Axis Bank told mid-day that the currency notes of 2,000, 500, 200 and 100 denominations were found missing from the Naigaon branch during routine audit of cash.

The case was filed by Cluster Head of Axis Bank Burzin Dadimaster on Friday night. The case has been registered under Sections 408 (criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Dubey was previously the branch manager of the ICICI Bank at Manvelpada. In August last year, he had joined Axis Bank in Naigaon as the manager. After Thursday’s incident, Dubey was terminated.

The injured cashier Shraddha Devrukhkar has now been shifted to Lilavati hospital in Bandra, said her husband Pradeep.
