Thane crime: Two men in the city have been accused of setting fire to a 25-year-old woman, stated a report in PTI. Reportedly, the woman had been in a romantic relationship with one of the accused persons but ended it last month. Reportedly, the incident, which took place in October, has resulted in a case being registered by the police.

The report in PTI stated the woman suffered severe burns and is presently under treatment in a hospital in Thane and that no arrests have been made so far in the case.

According to the report, the primary suspect, Sunijar Varma, had been involved with the woman, a resident of Mankoli in Bhiwandi taluka. However, after she recently ended the relationship, he, along with Ramesh Varma, who also knew the woman, allegedly visited her residence on October 19. They reportedly doused her with kerosene and set her on fire.

Hearing the woman's cries, her neighbours rushed to the scene and promptly admitted her to the hospital. The victim provided her statement to the police on Tuesday.

An FIR has been lodged against the two men, who are currently evading arrest. They face charges under sections 307 (attempted murder), 452 (house trespass with the intent to cause harm, assault, or wrongful restraint), and 34 (criminal actions committed by several individuals with a common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, stated the report.

The investigation is ongoing, as stated by the official.

Reportedly, the minor had eloped with a 22-year-old man from Chhattisgarh on September 9. Upon their arrival in Pune on September 12, the accused constable Anil Pawar spotted them sitting cluelessly at the station. When he realised their situation, he allegedly took them to a non-governmental organisation office run by him and held them captive.

According to the minor, Pawar sexually assaulted her multiple times between September 12 to 17. She also allegedly his associate Kamlesh Tiwari (40) raped her too. The accused cop took Rs 6,000 from the youth before allowing them to go.

The minor had elope d with Leeladhar Thakur, a 22-year-old man, from Chhattisgarh on September 9. When the duo reached Pune railway station on September 12, they were spotted by Head Constable Anil Pawar who saw them sitting cluelessly on the premises.
