The Aarey police have booked 71-year-old Amir Nensey, the chairman of Royal Palms India, for allegedly physically and mentally harassing and giving a verbal talaq to his 67-year-old wife after 50 years of marriage.

According to Rahat Nensey’s statement, Amir had been harassing her for the power of attorney for her 30 per cent shares in Royal Palms India Pvt Ltd. The company owns Royal Palms Estate spread over 240 acres in Goregaon East. Amir holds 25 per cent of the shares, their sons, Mohammed and Dilawar have 20 per cent and 23 per cent of the shares respectively. and their grandson, Omar holds two per cent of the shares. Rahat alleged that Amir abused her, hit her and gave her talaq when she refused to sign the power of attorney in his name.
Rahat married Amir in 1971. Her statement added that the family owns the Imperial Palace Hotel along with the Royal Palms estate. The couple lives in bungalow number 25 inside Royal Palms.
Harassment started in 2020
According to the police, in April 2020, when Amir asked for the power of attorney and Rahat refused, he fired their cleaning staff and house help who took care of Rahat as she is suffering from high blood pressure. Rahat claimed Amir did that to harass her. In June 2020, Amir asked her again for the power of attorney but when she again refused, he abused her and said ‘talaq’ once. Over the next two months, Amir kept demanding the power of attorney and on her refusal said ‘talaq’ twice more and declared that she was no longer his legal wife. In May this year, Amir brought two women who were fighting with him to their house where the couple has been living in separate rooms. Rahat’s statement says that she saw them but did not intervene. She saw the women with him in their garden. On May 9 Amir again came with the women. This time, Rahat objected to him bringing women to their house before their official separation. This angered Amir, who pushed Rahat, breaking her mobile phone. She then told her sons about the incident and approached the police on Wednesday.
“We have registered a case against Amir Nensey for harassment and torture of Rahat under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 498 (a) (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 504 (intentional insult), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. No arrest has been made yet, the investigation is going on he added,” an officer from Aarey police said.
‘Cannot persecute wife’
Speaking to mid-day, Rahat said, “My statement to the police is absolutely true. The purpose of my complaint is that no matter how rich and influential a husband is, if he persecutes his wife, then there is a need to stand against him. I spent 50 years of my life with him, nothing matters to him. Therefore, it was very important to teach him a lesson.”
Calls and messages to Amir Nensey went unanswered.
