Absconding: Javed and Fareen Sayeed. While Javed posed as a Special Public Prosecutor at the Bombay High Court, he would introduce Fareen as an IAS officer and a New Delhi-based collector
The incident came to light after 46-year-old Gurudutta Abnave, fabrication businessman and Kondhwa resident, lodged a complaint at the Kondhwa police station against Javed Pashu Sayeed and his wife Fareen. Abnave has accused the couple of duping him of Rs 10 lakh.

Inspector (Crime) Varsharani Patil from Kondhwa police station said, "Abnave runs a fabrication business and knew Javed since 2012. Javed presented himself as a Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) at the Bombay High Court and a lawyer for needy. He also told the victim that his wife is an IAS officer and a collector in New Delhi. Both are on the run and we’ll arrest them soon. When we visited the posh locality in which they had rented a flat, society members told us that Fareen was the chief guest for the Republic Day programme and distributed prizes to the winners."

Explaining the couple’s modus operandi, investigating officer PSI Nitin Atkare from Kondhwa police station said they immediately approached the High Court to verify Javed’s credentials following Abnave’s complaint.
He said, "Investigation revealed that no one by the name of Javed Pashu Sayeed was appointed as the SPP. Inquiries in New Delhi revealed that his wife was not even remotely attached with the administrative office. He duped one of his victims by claiming that he was a relative of the law minister and could settle his case through bribes. However, he absconded after taking the money. After Abnave’s complaint, two other victims — Akshad Mehboob Sayeed and Farukh Pansare — approached us claiming even they had been duped by the couple of R8.60 lakh and R7 lakh, respectively."

Speaking to mid-day, Abnave said, "There’s a garage next to my office, which Javed visited often. He would always wear a black coat and had a yellow beacon on his car. I sought Javed’s help in 2012, upon receiving a notice after my wife filed a matrimonial case in the family court against me. He told that it was a minor case and referred to another lawyer, who helped settle the case during mediation. Later, Javed told me that he is lawyer and has been appointed as a Special Public Prosecutor by the Bombay High Court and that’s how he got the beacon. He also told me that his wife is an IAS officer and is currently posted in New Delhi as a collector."
In 2015, Javed requested Abnave to lend him R20 lakh and promised to return it within 10 days.
"He claimed that his wife took away the cupboard keys in alimony and it would be against the law for him to break it open. Considering that he had helped me during my bad time, I broke my FDs to pay him the amount. However, he repaid just half of the amount. When I approached the police, I discovered that he had duped several people using similar modus operandi. Javed and Fareen trap needy people and exploit them monetarily on the pretext of solving their litigations before absconding," Abnave added.
