Police have seized a 24-year-old man after reportedly killing his sister's 18-year-old lover in Navi Mumbai, officials said on Monday.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, when the accused's sister invited the victim, a resident of Devichapada in Panvel, to her home.

According to a Taloja police officer, the accused returned home and knocked on the door, but his sister did not open it. He forced his way in and discovered his sister and her lover inside the house. The accused then called his father, and the two allegedly struck the victim with a sickle and a spade, killing him, reported PTI.

According to the PTI report, police responded to the site and transported the victim to a government hospital for a postmortem. The girl's brother has been apprehended, and charges have been filed against him and his 45-year-old father under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intent).

The inquiry into the case is ongoing.

In another case, four people have been charged with allegedly aiding the suicide of a 50-year-old lab worker over loan repayment in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Monday, reported PTI.

Based on a complaint filed by the deceased man's wife, the police registered a case against three women and a man on Saturday under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Money-Lending (Regulation) Act 2014, according to an Ambernath police official, the report added.

According to the PTI, the victim, Mahesh Nair, hanged himself in his office on May 6, and a suicide note was discovered in his clothing, in which he named the four accused and said that they had threatened him and his family over the payback of a debt he had taken, he said.

The dad had obtained a fast loan from the accused for his son's schooling, returned it, and was again borrowing money from them and making payments, the official told PTI.  The accused had allegedly ransacked the victim's house and took away his son's laptop and other items, he said. A probe is underway, and no arrests have been made in the case, the official added.
