Navi Mumbai auto-rickshaw driver booked for molesting teenage girl

Police have registered a case against a Navi Mumbai auto-rickshaw driver for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl while she was on way to school in his vehicle, an official said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.


The incident took place on January 25 in Turbhe area, he said, adding that the victim and the 37-year-old accused are residents of Ambedkar Nagar in the same area, reported PTI.


The accused allegedly touched the girl inappropriately while she was travelling to school in the auto-rickshaw, the official from Turbhe police station said, reported PTI.


A case was registered against the Navi Mumbai auto-rickshaw driver on Monday under Indian Penal Code sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354A (sexual harassment), and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the police said, reported PTI.

A probe was on into the case.

In another incident, a 14-year-old boy allegedly stabbed another teenager with a pair of scissors in his neck following an argument over playing cricket in Navi Mumbai, police said on Wednesday, reported PTI.

The victim, who is 16 years old, was admitted to a hospital after getting injured in the incident that took place around 6.30 pm on Tuesday on a ground in Yadav Nagar area of Airoli, they said, reported PTI.

"The boys were playing cricket when an argument broke out between them. It escalated to such a level that the accused pulled out a pair of scissors and stabbed the victim in his neck in a fit of rage," an official of Rabale MIDC police station said, reported PTI.

The injured boy was rushed to a hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment, he said.

The police have registered a case against the accused minor under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons and means), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation), the official added, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case against nine persons for allegedly cheating a 42-year-old woman from Navi Mumbai and other persons of Rs 2.97 crore after promising them high returns in various investment schemes, an official said on Monday, reported PTI.

The accused invested funds of the woman and other victims in shares and also to acquire movable and immovable properties over the last three years, the official from Sanpada police station said, reported PTI.

But, the accused failed to provide any gains or return the invested money to the victims, he said.

The woman, who is a resident of Seawoods area in Navi Mumbai township, filed a complaint with the police on Sunday, reported PTI.

Based on it, the police registered a case against nine persons under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Act and the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (In Financial Establishments) Act, reported PTI.
