Mumbai Police arrest two persons, confiscate 8 weapons along with 15 live bullets

The Mumbai police arrested two individuals and confiscated eight weapons along with 15 live bullets from their possession.

Arrested accused were taken into custody

The Mumbai Police arrested two individuals and confiscated eight weapons along with 15 live bullets from their possession. According to police, one of the accused obtained a country-made revolver to seek revenge for his brother's killer.


Hemraj Rajput, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 6, said that on January 13, they received information about an individual possessing an illegal weapon. Subsequently, a team of officials from Trombay, Tilak Nagar, and other police stations initiated an investigation. The police identified a suspicious person, Chetan Sanjay Mali, 26, and seized four weapons and eight live bullets from him. Additionally, three weapons and six bullets were seized from Kalyan during the investigation, and an accused named Sinu Narsaiya was found in possession of a weapon and a bullet.


"We have arrested both individuals and are further investigating to trace the supply chain link. The accused are currently in custody," stated Hemraj Rajput, DCP, Zone 6.

Sources said that the weapons are suspected to have been procured from Madhya Pradesh, an aspect currently under investigation. Moreover, two types of weapons were identified, one valued at around Rs 30,000, and the other at approximately Rs 80,000. "The weapons are undergoing technical analysis. Mali, the accused, was involved in weapon sales, while Sinu claimed to have purchased the weapon for revenge against his brother's killer," explained a police officer.

Police in Thane’s Mumbra seized two country-made pistols, a revolver and three live cartridges from the possession of a 19-year-old man on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Rakesh Mehta who hails from Aurangabad and was currently living in Sonarpada area of Dombivli in the district, newswire PTI reported quoting an official. Mehta was searched by a police team on Sunday night near the Mumbra railway station.

Police are probing from where he procured the arms and the purpose behind the acquisition, he said. The accused was booked under relevant provisions of the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act. (With additional reporting by PTI)
