Mumbai Police, on Sunday, arrested a man with charas worth Rs 2.4 crore. A police official told news agency PTI that the accused was arrested from the Masjid Bunder area of south Mumbai.

The official further told PTI that the 48-year-old man was arrested on Saturday evening from Yusuf Meher Ali Road based on a tip-off provided by a team of the Anti-Narcotics Cell.

Reportedly, the man resides in the Mumbra town of Thane district and has no prior criminal record. The police said that they are conducting a probe and attempting to bust the drug-peddling network. Meanwhile, he added, that the accused they arrested has been charged under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

In another incident from Thane district, the police arrested a shopkeeper for reportedly storing banned gutka with an estimated value of Rs 5.44 lakh in his establishment, as confirmed by an official on Sunday.

Acting upon a tip-off, a squad from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted a raid at the store situated in Purna village, located within the Bhiwandi area, on Saturday, stated a PTI report. During the operation, they confiscated the illegal stock, as reported by an official from the Narpoli police station.

Reportedly, the 28-year-old shopkeeper was taken into custody and has been charged in accordance with the provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the regulations set forth by the FDA, the official further explained.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mumbai has recently carried out a series of operations that have disrupted international and interstate drug trafficking networks. These operations have led to the seizure of substantial quantities of contraband and the apprehension of several key individuals, one of whom is an employee of the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation.

According to the NCB, these operations have delivered a significant blow to drug trafficking syndicates with connections both in India and abroad. The combined value of the drugs seized in the three operations amounts to approximately Rs 1 crore.

On October 3, the NCB team in Mumbai intercepted the recipient, Riyaz B, in the act of trying to retrieve the consignment. The cartons were found to contain 1,199 CBCS bottles, with a total weight of 119.9 kg. Riyaz B, a person with a history of engagement in the drug trade spanning several years, had connections with kingpins based in Mumbai and other drug peddlers who had previously been apprehended by the NCB.
