Mumbai Crime: Two people held for breaking and stealing cash from donation box in temple

Temple's donation box can be found in broken condition

The MHB police have arrested two people for allegedly breaking and stealing cash from the donation box in a Jain temple in Dahisar West.


The accused have been identified as Raju Farhad Sheikh and Akash Mannan Khan. The burglary was committed four days back when both accused entered the Jain temple in Dharmanagr near Ram Tower. The temple was closed by the priest at night. The next morning, when the priest came, he found the temple's locks in broken condition.



He also noticed that the money was stolen from the donation box. The priest then informed the trustee of the temple. The trustee rushed to the MHB police station, said an officer from the MHB police station.


We have registered the case against the accused under the guidance of Senior Inspector Sudhir Kudalkar. A team was formed under the supervision of police inspector Prashant Tilak, PSI Vijay Dhotre started the investigation.

We examined the CCTV footage in which the accused identity was revealed and with the help of the informer we traced and caught the accused from Navi Mumbai, he added.


 The Jain temple's locks were broken by the burglars

The two confessed to stealing Rs 60,000 from the donation box. Raju and Akash are both natives of Kolkata who were living in the Dahisar area and were working as daily wage labourers. The duo conspired to steal the donation box from the temple and did recce of the temple before committing theft.

After doing recce, both slept on the street till the wee hours. Then they entered the temple early in the morning stole money from the temple treasury and went to Navi Mumbai.  Two days before the theft, the duo had rented a room at the camp in Navi Mumbai and were hiding there. The two had fun with the stolen money we have seized some of the stolen property. Raju and Akash have been arrested and were produced in court on January 13. They have been remanded to police custody said another officer.
