Mumbai Crime: Three arrested for trying to sell horns of sambar deer in Andheri

Three accused arrested by Mumbai Police

On Tuesday, the DN Nagar police caught three accused from Andheri and recovered horns along with the skull of a Sambar deer.


According to the police sources API Rakesh Pawar attached to the DN Nagar police station had received information through a secret informant.



Under the guidance of his senior officials laid a trap along with his team in front of Wajeda House, Samta Nagar, Gulmohar Cross Road No.07, Andheri (West), and at around 16.50 hours they caught three suspects.


The three accused were identified as - Manoj Suresh Barap alias Bhutya, (24), Harsh Manish Dubey, (22), and Ashitosh Sukhdev Suryavanshi (22).

According to the police, during the search of their belongings, they recovered horns containing the skull of the deer species "Sambar".

"All three accused are residents of the Kajupada area which is attached to Sanjay Gandhi National Park. During the interrogation it has been revealed that they have come here to sell the horn and its skull," the police official said.

"All of the above accused were booked and arrested under section 51 along with section 9,39,48(a),49(b) of Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972," said a police officer.

He added, "We are trying to ascertain from the arrested accused whether they got these things by killing the deer or got them from the dead animal in the jungle."
