The 62-year-old complainant lives with his wife at Emily Apartment on 15th Road and owns a garment shop at ALCO market. Requesting anonymity, he told mid-day that six people arrived in a car at the society around 2.30 pm on Thursday.
“One of the intruders told the watchman that he was from a courier service and had come to deliver a packet to my house. Soon, five more people in black suits, face shields, masks and hand gloves entered the premises. They said they were from the I-T department and asked the guard to switch off his mobile phone,” he said.
The police said the gang entered the society saying they had to deliver something to one Mulchandani who lives on the second floor. “Since there is a person by that name stays in the society, the watchman did not suspect anything amiss and allowed them inside,” said a police officer.
One of the gang members sat with the watchman, while the others walked to the complainant’s home and knocked on his door.
“I opened the door to find a man with a packet. As I came out to collect it, he tried to push his way into my home. By then, four others who were hiding on other floors came running towards me. While I fought them, one of the robbers hit me and I fell down. Fortunately, I managed to shut the door,” he said.
All six fled the society after the complainant raised an alarm, alerting the neighbours.
Similar incident in 2014
An officer from Khar police station said there had been a similar incident in the society in 2014 and a housekeeper was arrested in the case.
“We suspect this is that same person. The entire incident has been captured by CCTV cameras of the society and the ones installed on the road outside the building. We will arrest the accused soon.” The officer said the gang did not carry any weapons.
Another officer from the police station said they were scanning the footage of the gang in action.
