A Manager of a nationalised bank has been arrested by the Virar police for the alleged attempted robbery at ICICI Bank at Virar East on Thursday evening and for the murder of the woman branch manager.

The police said the accused, who was earlier the manager of this bank, entered with a knife and his face covered with a mask. The police said while escaping with cash and gold jewellery, a woman bank manager and woman cashier tried to stop him, during which he stabbed both of them. The woman bank manager died in hospital during treatment, while the cashier has been seriously injured.

The accused, identified as Anil Dube, currently works in another nationalised bank at Naigaon. He used to work with ICICI Bank as manager earlier, the police said. The deceased has been identified as Yogita Chaudhary. The cashier has been identified as Shraddha Devrukhkar.

Senior inspector Suresh Haribhau Verhade of Virar Police station said, “The incident occurred at 8pm on Thursday.” Virar crime branch sources said, “The local people called the police after catching Dube. They also rushed Chaudhary and Devrukhkar to the nearest hospital. We are interrogating Dube now.”
