Four people, including a minor, were arrested on Friday for the murder of a transgender at Bhagat Singh Nagar in Goregaon two days ago, said police.

The accused were identified as Rajesh Yadav (23), Dheeraj Vishwakarma (20), Vinay Yadav(22) and a 16-year-old boy.
According to police, the accused had tried to kill the transgender Suresh Mastud aka Surya many times in the past. Investigation revealed that Yadav planned the murder. Mastud used to exploit people in the area by giving them loans and taking over their houses if they were unable to pay, said police. The victim had frequent tiffs with the accused over petty issues.
The incident took place around 4.30 pm on Wednesday, when Mastud exited Roomaniya Hotel. The accused, hiding behind a tempo, attacked and killed the victim.
After the murder, the four fled the city and switched off their mobile phones.
Based on a tip-off, police laid a trap and arrested the accused from Palghar on Friday.
During questioning, the accused revealed they were Mastud’s neighbours and the victim used to threaten them and others in the locality.
“After the efforts of ACP Deepak Phatangre, senior inspector Shobha Pise and Harish Goswami of Bangur Nagar and Goregaon police station and the officials of the both police stations we caught the accused,” said Vishal Thakur, the deputy commissioner of police, zone 11.
